This project was inspired by…

Picnic Spoons was a name first, an idea second, and this blog last of all.

I loved the domestic touch in the name.

I had an idea for some record of my journey, in the older tradition of writing down what one learns, notices, and wishes to remember.

I finally developed this site over the course of a few weeks in May 2026.

I’ve been inspired by commonplace books, open educational resources, field journals, and countless independent blogs.

Topics explored throughout the site may include:

  • Education and self-directed learning
  • Developmental thinking and cognitive growth
  • Domestic life and household culture
  • Personal libraries and archives

  • Writing, creativity, and long-term projects
  • Slow technology and independent publishing

The site is organized into several sections, including Commonplace, Field Notes, Library, and Studio, each approaching these themes from a different angle.
