Field Notes for a Future Family

Picnic Spoons is a commonplace book about learning, household culture, and the lived practice of preparing a life that can be shared.

Welcome to Picnic Spoons

Welcome to Picnic Spoons, a space for sharing and exploring the art of living well.

My family is still small, composed of me and my spouse. I dream every day about our future little, and the ways we can nurture their growth and creativity. Picnic Spoons is a space to explore these ideas, and to share the insights and discoveries that emerge along the way.

I started Picnic Spoons as a way to document my own journey of learning and growth, and to create a resource for others who are on a similar path.

I write about a philosophy of education and the ways it can be applied to family life. I write about a rich, beautiful, secular life and the ways we can cultivate it in our homes and communities. I write about the vast expanse of knowledge and the importance of nurturing a love of learning in ourselves and our children.

Above all, I write about the process of building a future worth living in.

There are few things as important as looking to the future and creating a supportive environment for ourselves, our communities, and those we love.

Sincerely, Gail
